Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Billings

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • Water, Sewer & Trash — the City bills trash with water and sewer; we did not find the contractor's name on a City page.
  • Farmers market every Saturday, 8 to 11 am, next to City Hall.
  • Under one square mile — 0.98 sq mi by the Census count.
  • Contractor licensing — the City runs its own Contractors License Application and licensed-contractor list.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Billings

Who may haul — the rule that matters: Billings Code §230.060 says no one may run a business collecting, transporting or disposing of solid waste in city limits without an annual City permit. It is $25 per vehicle a year, with insurance of at least $100,000 per person, $300,000 per accident and $50,000 property damage, and the application lists the trucks, waste type, disposal site and area served. We hold ours.

Bulky rubbish: §230.030 tells residents to "deal directly with those licensed by the City."

Placement and demolition: we found no Billings rule for a dumpster in the street and no demolition permit text. Keep the container on the driveway and check with City Hall first.

Summarized from the city's published code and web pages as read in October 2026. Codes change — confirm with the department listed before you rely on it.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Billings

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. 1

Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask what you are clearing, where the container needs to sit, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us. No long forms, no guesswork.

  2. 2

We size it and quote it flat

You get one number covering delivery, the standard rental of up to 7 days, pickup, disposal and a stated weight allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.

  3. 3

    Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site exactly where you asked, with boards under it if you want them. Often same-day or next-day, depending on availability.

  4. 4

    Load at your own pace

Keep it level with the top edge and keep the banned items out — tires, car batteries, used oil, paint, chemicals, propane tanks, and fridges, washers, water heaters and other major appliances. Need a swap mid-job or an early pickup? One call or text and we are on it.

  5. 5

We haul it and dispose of it right

The load goes to a permitted landfill or processing facility, with metal, concrete and clean green waste recycled whenever possible. You get your driveway back the way you left it.
