The 30 yard container in Springfield
The 30 yard takes up the same 22 by 8 feet of ground as the 20 — the extra volume is all height. That makes it the natural pick when a job makes a lot of bulky debris but the site has no more room: a full home or office renovation, a major estate cleanout, a multi-unit or condo renovation, a big roofing job. It still fits most commercial and residential lots. It holds about nine pickup loads.
The sides are six feet high, so most of what goes in is carried or thrown rather than tipped from a wheelbarrow. Contractors with a crew do not mind; a homeowner working alone may prefer a 20 and a swap.
Big renovations, cleanouts and commercial remodels
Taking a house back to the studs fills a 30 in a hurry: every cabinet, every door, the drywall from every room. Major cleanouts and estate projects land here too, and so do commercial remodels, new home builds, landscaping and property redevelopment — bulky wood, drywall, roofing and mixed construction waste.
Knocking a building down in Springfield needs a City Wrecking Permit first — $151 residential or $171 commercial on the fee schedules effective July 1, 2025. Before it is issued, City Utilities retires the water, gas and electric, a City-licensed plumber caps the sewer, a certified inspector does an asbestos inspection with the report sent to Environmental Services, and the City checks the structure for historical significance. In a local historic district — Commercial Street, or the Walnut Street East and West conservation districts — you need a Certificate of Appropriateness from Planning & Development before going further. We will ask whether you have the permit.
Weight, swaps and long jobs
Four to five tons — about 8,000 to 10,000 pounds — is included. Jobs that run for weeks usually go on a swap schedule — we pull the full one and drop an empty, so the site never waits. Tell us how long the job runs and we will set the rhythm. Keep the load level with the top edge and spread it evenly so it travels safely; keeping concrete and other dense debris separate keeps the weight in check.
Suitability
Is the 30 yard the right size for you?
Rough working figures. Weight, not volume, is what usually decides.
Choose the 30 yard for
- Full home or office renovations
- Major cleanouts and estate projects
- Commercial construction and remodeling
- New home builds and demolition debris
- Multi-unit and condo renovations
Pick a different size for
- Heavy-only loads — concrete, brick and dirt belong in a 10 loaded level
- Small cleanouts (you will pay for unused space)
- Sites without room for a 22-foot container and the truck
- Asbestos, paint, oil, fuel or medical waste
Placing a 30 yard container on a Springfield-area property
It needs a flat, stable spot about 22 feet long and 8 feet wide plus room for the truck to roll it off, and nothing low overhead — power lines or branches. On your own driveway or lot in Springfield we found no City permit for a roll-off; in the street or on the sidewalk, City Code Sec. 98-1 bans obstructions that hinder traffic or block drainage, and work in the right-of-way that affects traffic needs a temporary traffic control permit — call Traffic Operations at 417-864-1980 first. Other towns have their own rules — Battlefield wants a free City permit for any project dumpster in public view, and Ash Grove's code bans obstructing a street. Check your HOA too: some cover containers in driveways. Boards go under the dumpster on request. Each town page covers its own code.

30 Yard Dumpster — questions we get asked
Is a 30 yard too big for a house?
For a normal cleanout, often yes — a whole-house cleanout is usually a 20. For a renovation that strips several rooms to the studs, or a whole estate, no — that volume arrives faster than people expect. We will tell you honestly which it is.
Can I do swaps on a 30 yard?
Yes. We pull the full container and drop an empty. Contractors with multi-week jobs usually set up the swap schedule at the start.
How much does a 30 yard dumpster weigh when full?
It depends entirely on what is in it. Four to five tons of disposal is included; a 30 full of plaster, shingles and tile can go past that, so we estimate heavy loads with you up front.
Do I need a permit for a 30 yard?
On your own driveway or lot, we found no City of Springfield permit for a roll-off. The street or sidewalk is another matter: City Code Sec. 98-1 bans any obstruction in the public way that hinders traffic or blocks drainage, and work in or next to the right-of-way that is expected to affect normal traffic needs a Public Works temporary traffic control permit (Sec. 98-29), with fees set per city block per week. We found no permit written specifically for dumpsters and no published fee, so Traffic Operations (417-864-1980) is the call to make. Tell us when you book and we will tell you where your spot stands.

30 yard dumpsters delivered across the Springfield metro and the 417
We run roll-off containers out of the Glenstone Avenue yard to every town below. Springfield and the closest towns are often same-day; the edges of the area are more often next-day. Most of the towns we checked license or permit the haulers that work inside their limits, and a few keep containers off the street — each page says so plainly. If your town is not listed, call anyway.
