Local knowledge

Getting our bearings in Marshfield

Knowing a city properly is the difference between covering it and showing up with the right box.

  • City-provided trash — the code has the City provide residential collection, by contract or otherwise; we did not find the provider named on a City page.
  • Bulky rubbish — the code tells residents to "deal directly with those licensed by the City."
  • Ten City parks, from Shackelford Spring to Hidden Waters, plus the Dr. Tommy Macdonnell Aquatic Center.
  • A five-person Street Department at 325 S. Crittenden St looks after streets, alleys, right-of-way, parks, the cemetery and City buildings.

What comes out of Marshfield properties

Kitchens, baths and roofs in 15s and 20s, clear-outs in 15s and 20s, and a 10 for concrete and brick. Construction in city limits needs a City building permit and inspections — the City uses the 2018 International Building Codes — so sort the permit before the container lands.

Permits, placement and who may haul in Marshfield

Who may haul — the rule that matters: Marshfield Code §230.060 says no one may run a business collecting, transporting or disposing of solid waste in city limits without an annual permit, approved by the City Administrator. The City's Solid Waste Hauler business license form says "$25.00 PER TRUCK", with a certificate of liability insurance naming the City — at least $100,000 per person, $300,000 per accident and $50,000 property damage. We hold ours.

In the street: Chapter 545 needs a right-of-way permit from the City Administrator for work in the right-of-way, including storing materials or equipment there. It does not name dumpsters, so ask City Hall (417-859-2352) before a street placement. The driveway is simpler.

Demolition: construction in city limits needs a building permit and inspections from the Building Inspector at City Hall, 798 S. Marshall St. We found no separate demolition-permit rule — ask before anything comes down.

Summarized from the city's published code and web pages as read in October 2026. Codes change — confirm with the department listed before you rely on it.

How it works

Booking a dumpster in Marshfield

Booking a container here takes one phone call and about five minutes.

  1. 1

Call and tell us the job

One short conversation. We ask what you are clearing, where the container needs to sit, and how much room the driveway or lot gives us. No long forms, no guesswork.

  2. 2

We size it and quote it flat

You get one number covering delivery, the standard rental of up to 7 days, pickup, disposal and a stated weight allowance. If a smaller box does the job we will say so. If it is concrete, shingles or dirt, we say up front that weight decides the size.

  3. 3

    Delivered where you want it

The driver sets the container on the driveway, lot or job site exactly where you asked, with boards under it if you want them. Often same-day or next-day, depending on availability.

  4. 4

    Load at your own pace

Keep it level with the top edge and keep the banned items out — tires, car batteries, used oil, paint, chemicals, propane tanks, and fridges, washers, water heaters and other major appliances. Need a swap mid-job or an early pickup? One call or text and we are on it.

  5. 5

We haul it and dispose of it right

The load goes to a permitted landfill or processing facility, with metal, concrete and clean green waste recycled whenever possible. You get your driveway back the way you left it.
