Everything people ask before they book
If you are renting a dumpster for the first time, you probably have the same dozen questions everyone does: what it costs, what size, whether the town will fine you, and what you cannot throw in. The answers below are the ones we give on the phone every day. If yours is not here, call (417) 720-8150 — a real person in Springfield will answer it.
Part 1
Pricing
How much does a dumpster rental cost in Springfield, MO?
Most rentals run $295 to $695, with no hidden fuel or pickup fees. The price depends on the size, the type of debris, how long you keep it, and the location and any permit it needs. You get a flat rate on the phone covering delivery, pickup, the standard rental of up to 7 days and the included weight — 2 to 3 tons on a 10 or 15 yard, 3 to 4 on a 20, 4 to 5 on a 30, 5 to 6 on a 40. Going over can mean an overage. The cost guide breaks it down.
Is delivery and pickup included in the price?
Yes. Delivery, pickup, the rental period and disposal up to the included weight are all in the one flat price. No fuel surcharges, no hidden fees.
What causes extra charges?
Two things: going over the included weight, and keeping the container past the rental window, at a small daily rate. Banned items also have to come out of the load before it can go. We explain it all on the first call so there is nothing to find later.
Do you charge more for heavy materials like concrete or dirt?
Not a different rate — but concrete, brick, dirt, shingles and tile use up the included weight fast. So we size heavy loads differently (a 10 yard loaded level, or split loads) and tell you where the weight line is before you load.
What payment methods do you accept?
Major credit cards, electronic payments and business checks. Business clients and repeat contractors can have invoices emailed, and long-term and multi-container customers can ask about special pricing.
Part 2
Sizing
What size dumpster do I need?
A 10 for a bathroom, a garage or a small load of heavy material, a 15 for a kitchen, a deck or a roof of around 2,000 square feet, a 20 for a whole-house cleanout or multi-room remodel, a 30 for a full renovation or a new build, a 40 for construction and demolition. Weight decides for dense material — see the size guide.
What happens if I order too small?
You need another haul — and too large means paying for unused space. When in doubt, describe the job and let us size it. If your project grows, we can swap the dumpster.
What is the biggest dumpster you offer?
A 40 yard: about 22 ft × 8 ft × 8 ft, roughly 12 pickup loads, 5–6 tons included. It is a job-site container, not a driveway one.
How full can I fill it?
Level with or below the top rim, no higher. Overfilled dumpsters cannot be safely transported, so even loading matters.
How much does a roof tear-off produce?
A roof replacement of around 2,000 square feet usually goes in a 15 yard; small repairs and single-layer tear-offs on small roofs fit a 10, and bigger roofs a 20. Tell us the roof size and how many layers are coming off and we will plan it around the weight.
Part 3
Permits, placement and town rules
Do I need a permit to have a dumpster delivered?
On your own driveway or private property in Springfield, we found no City permit for a roll-off. In the street or on the sidewalk, check first: City Code Sec. 98-1 bans any obstruction in the public way that hinders traffic or diverts or blocks drainage, and work in or next to the right-of-way that is expected to affect normal traffic needs a temporary traffic control permit from Public Works (Sec. 98-29), with plans that follow the federal work-zone manual and fees set per city block per week. We found no dumpster-specific permit and no published fee — Traffic Operations (417-864-1980) is the office to ask. Other towns differ — Battlefield wants a free City permit for any project dumpster in public view, and Ash Grove's code bans obstructing a street. The permit guide and your town page cover the details.
Can the dumpster go on the street if my driveway won't fit it?
Possibly, but ask first. In Springfield, talk to Traffic Operations at 417-864-1980 before you count on it. Willard and Nixa keep commercial waste containers on private property unless the City gives written permission, and Republic lets construction use the street for reasonable periods but wants a safe walkway kept clear and refuse removed within 3 days of finishing. Tell us when you book and we line the delivery up with it.
Why do some of your town pages say the town licenses haulers?
Because most of the ones we checked do. Springfield requires an annual City licence from Environmental Services for anyone in the business of hauling solid waste, including construction and demolition waste, with liability insurance and the company name, tare weight and a City sticker on every truck (Secs. 94-7, 94-8); the fee is not published. Willard's annual licence needs $2,000,000 of liability insurance on file, Nixa's permit a $500 bond, Billings and Marshfield charge $25 a truck a year, and Bolivar's permit carries a $10,000 bond — though Bolivar needs no permit for demolition and construction waste. Battlefield, Ash Grove, Ozark and Sparta require a City permit too. We hold ours. We quote the section on each page and tell you where your job stands.
Why do some town pages say the town keeps household trash?
Because several do. Nixa contracts its household trash and recycling to Republic Services, Sparta's contract is with GFL, and the Willard, Ash Grove, Billings and Marshfield codes say the City provides for residential collection, by contract if it chooses. Springfield, Republic, Ozark and Bolivar are open markets where residents pick a private hauler — Ozark says it is "not an exclusive trash hauler city". The codes leave room for project debris: Springfield's and Sparta's container rules leave out demolition and construction waste, and Ash Grove, Sparta, Billings and Marshfield send residents with bulky rubbish to a hauler the City has licensed. A roll-off carries project debris, not weekly trash. We tell you straight on the phone where your job stands.
Does my HOA matter?
It can. Some subdivisions have rules on containers in driveways. We do not know your HOA's rules — check them before you book.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway?
Ask for boards under the dumpster and the driver puts them down. Tell us before delivery if a surface needs more than that — the terms put surface damage on the customer unless protection was asked for before delivery.
How much space does the truck need?
A flat, stable surface, room for the container — about 12 feet long for a 10 yard, about 22 feet for a 20 and up — plus the truck, and nothing low overhead. Power lines, tree branches, parked cars and bins are the usual problem.
Part 4
Booking and delivery
How do I book a dumpster?
Call (417) 720-8150. Tell us the address, what is going in and roughly how much, and we quote it flat and schedule it on the same call.
How fast can you deliver?
Often same-day or next-day, depending on availability. Call before noon for the best chance of same-day; the edges of our area are more often next day.
What are your hours?
24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Storm requests go to the same number.
How long can I keep the dumpster?
The standard rental is up to 7 days. Call or text and we extend it at a small daily rate. Some rules set their own clock: Battlefield allows a project dumpster only for the length of the project, Republic wants building materials and refuse cleared from the street within 3 days of finishing, and Ash Grove's code says waste may not be stored on a site for more than 10 days. Your HOA may have its own limit.
Do I need to be home for delivery or pickup?
No. Agree the spot with us, keep it clear of vehicles and obstacles, and the driver sets it down. Same for pickup.
Can I book multiple dumpsters at once?
Yes. Several dumpsters at once, staggered deliveries and scheduled rotations are routine for contractors and property managers.
Part 5
Service area
What towns do you serve?
Springfield, Republic, Battlefield, Willard, Strafford, Fair Grove and Ash Grove in Greene County; Ozark, Nixa, Sparta, Billings and Clever in Christian County; and Rogersville, Marshfield and Bolivar further out — each with its own page. The complete Springfield guide pulls it together.
Where is Load Hawk Dumpster Rental based?
At 660 S Glenstone Ave, Springfield, MO 65802.
Is service different in the far towns?
Mostly the timing. Billings, Clever, Ash Grove, Sparta, Marshfield and Bolivar are 21 to 32 road miles from the yard and more often next day than same-day. Price depends partly on the delivery location, and we say any difference up front.
Do some towns restrict who can deliver a roll-off?
Yes — most of the towns we checked license or permit haulers, and Battlefield, Ash Grove, Willard and Nixa have rules on where a container can sit. Each town page says what that town's code says, and we tell you where your job stands when you call.
Part 6
What we take
What can I put in a dumpster?
Household junk and furniture, mattresses, wood, drywall, flooring, cabinets, siding, roofing shingles, metal, cardboard and packaging, clean yard waste in its own load, and concrete, brick or asphalt loaded level within the weight limit.
What can't go in a dumpster?
Major appliances, used oil and car batteries — banned from Missouri landfills since 1991 — and whole tires, which can only be landfilled cut, chipped or shredded. Also paint, solvents, pesticides and other chemicals, liquids, propane tanks and fuel, medical waste and asbestos. Yard waste has been banned from Missouri landfills since 1992, so it goes in its own clean load. Ask us before loading electronics or fluorescent bulbs. The what can and cannot go in guide says where each of those goes instead.
Can asbestos-containing material go in a dumpster?
No. Before demolishing a regulated structure, DNR wants an inspection by a Missouri-certified asbestos inspector and a notice at least 10 working days ahead — even if none is found — with a $120 fee. A single residential building of four or fewer units is exempt from that notice, but inside Springfield the City's wrecking-permit steps still call for a certified asbestos inspection. DNR says asbestos-containing material must go to a permitted landfill, and the City's Noble Hill landfill will not accept asbestos-contaminated debris. It never goes in a roll-off.
Can I put concrete, brick or dirt in a regular dumpster?
In a 10 or 15 yard, yes — heavy materials have strict weight limits for safe transport. Heaped in a 20 or 30 it is more than the truck can lift. Missouri counts clean concrete, brick, rock and dirt as clean fill, so a clean load is worth keeping clean, and it is why so many patio and driveway jobs end up with a 10.
Can I put a mattress or an old appliance in?
Mattresses, yes. Fridges, freezers, washers, dryers, water heaters, stoves, dishwashers and A/C units, no — Missouri has banned major appliances from landfills since 1991, and DNR says they must be salvaged. Our junk removal crew can take them to the right place.
What happens to the debris after pickup?
It goes to a permitted landfill or processing facility, not a random dump. Clean concrete, brick and dirt are clean fill under Missouri law; mixed construction debris and household junk go to a permitted landfill such as the City's Noble Hill landfill; clean green waste goes to composting, because Missouri bans it from landfills. Metal, concrete, asphalt and cardboard are recycled whenever possible.
